A great night for racing

Wednesday 14th June saw the first round of the Brownlee Circuit evening race series take place. The first round of a series of Wednesday night events hosted by albaRosa, Otley CC, Ilkley CC and Harrogate Nova.

43 riders, the most to take to the new circuit in a single race, rolled onto the start-line for the Category 3/4 race with a brilliant 45 minute affair battled out.

The group seemed to roll around without too many of the attacks sticking and staying away, anything and everything quickly reeled back in. A night of racing like that could only lead to one thing... the inevitable bunch sprint. The bunch came down the hill at a rate of knots as the sprint wound itself up and got going, opening up and spreading 3 or 4 abreast across the track and a tight finish in the end.

Well done to all, full result on the night!
1st Julian Roche
2nd Matt Mannakee
3rd Matthew Kirkbright
4th Rob Ormrod
5th Samuel Walsh
6th Tom Harmer
7th Matthew Grimshaw
8th Christopher Holmes
9th Harry Hunt
10th Peter Boyd

7.30 and race two quickly came around with 9 ladies rolling up to the start-line including one albaRosa Alumni in Seonaid Thompson.

The small field jumped off the start line with a couple of little attacks starting and being brought under control in the early laps of the race with a relatively uneventful race for the points. The girls, with the last ascent of the course began jockeying for position, and the sprint ran down the hill towards the finish line!

All in all a very tight finish with the top three positions being split by a wheel! Well done to all of the girls, and thanks for coming along to race! Full result from the night:
1st Seonaid Thompson
2nd Madeline Moore
3rd Linda Evans
4th Felicity Gledhill
5th Ellen McDermott
6th Rebecca Longthorpe
7th Nicola Moore
8th Leah Pheasey
9th Penny Trinder

The final race of the night saw 17 men roll onto the start-line for the E/1/2/3 event.

The night was closing in fast, and it seemed that the hour long race might well be cut short but the men made great work of the challenging conditions in a well animated race.

A small break of 3 went up the road early into the race with it appearing to stick, despite efforts from a few to bridge from the chase pack. The pack never seemed to get themselves organised and it allowed the chase to stay away until the end. Towards the back of the race, a couple of fairly animated groups made interesting racing throughout.

Again, a small bunch sprint for the line, with Prologue RT coming out on top and a victory and celebration in style from Tom Wood! Great racing from all! Full result from the night:
1st Thomas Wood
2nd Robert Pape
3rd William Brown
4th Rob Watson
5th William Staveley
6th Tom Barras
7th Ben Bough
8th James Coates
9th Euan Cameron
10th Marc Layfield

Again, a great thanks to all of our volunteers, spectators and more importantly the commissaires. Without all the groups of people we wouldn't have events like this.

Many have asked about photos from the event. We had a number of club photographers out on the evening and multitude of photos can be found from the links below:

Jerry Watson's Images

If you wish to use a photo from any of the collections above, then we would ask you to make a small donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a charity close to the heart of the club and no doubt a lot of other clubs and individuals across Yorkshire.

Thanks to all who have made the event a roaring success!
