Welcome to the July newsletter and what a delight it is to be sharing not just alba news, but pictures of people riding bikes in the sunshine rather than sheltering from the rain – mostly at least; there was one post of people looking relieved to be out of it while in a bus shelter...
Feedback on last months note was that it was interesting to see some of the FB posts again, have a reminder of dates and see some other info, so I've pulled together another. By the way, I'm Simon Owen – I don't think I mentioned that last month!
As always there was a plethora of choice with the long weekend rides and shorter midweek evening ones to choose from:
These are a selection of photo's from Nic's ride to Ripon while an intrepid group headed out to do Great Dun Fell in a day (gulp!)
There were also a number of sportives that had a good alba showing including the WaterCycle that we support alongside the Valley Striders
You can tell that the days have been longer by the distances; keeping Richard Gates seat warm as the long distance master (just a couple of weeks until TCR now...), Patrick shared:
Just as a quick reminder the club has a variety of rides going out every week, but as a general rule:
Saturday – training ride with cafe stop at the finish and a social ride
Sunday – A, B and C rides
Tuesday – Hill repeats and Chain Gang
Wednesday – C ride from Adel and the La Bottega Milanese “Caffeine Ride” from Leeds centre
Thursday – Track training and B ride social
Have a look on the Facebook group if you are looking for a ride, or if you want to do something different why not pop a post up to see who will join you?
One of the key things that has come up in conversation is that a lot of people know a number of members and the committee, but possibly don't know who the sponsors are, or what they do.
I have contacted all of the sponsors asking them for a brief profile and some images so I can share them over the next few months. Unfortunately, the only people who have come back to me so far were my colleagues at Calibre Search. I say unfortunately, as I didn't want to appear biased towards a company I'm a Director of. I hope that next month I'll have news from the others, but in the meantime you can see their details on the alba website and this is how my friends at Calibre describe what we're about:
“Calibre Search is a local recruiter focusing on IT, Marketing, Architecture, Consulting Engineering, M&E and Construction as well as maintenance, building surveying, PQS and project management.
Our company mission says it all and is at the core of what we do:
• To be the ‘go to’ partner for our industries.
• To be renowned as recruiters who do the right thing by the individuals they represent.
• To be an employer that people aspire to work for.”
One of our Directors, Simon Owen is well known within the club while his co-Directors Fin, Mark and Pete also regularly ride as do numerous members of the team in our Leeds and Manchester offices.
If you would like to have a recruitment or career focused conversation their contact number is 0113 2346047; you will struggle to find a more alba friendly recruiter!”
We seem to have been a bit light on other stuff, I guess we have all been riding bikes more than thinking about them with a few exceptions:
Graham is organising next years alba Coast to Coast in a day group. Entries open on Tuesday and accommodation will get booked up very, very quickly.
Rich Banks has been wondering about upgrades...
Not on the FB page (as yet – I'll be posting it up soon...) - young riders can get discounted/free British Cycling membership:
That will give them the same benefits as adult and full price membership including the legal cover, 10% off at Evans and Chain Reaction, 30% off SIS and 20% off Muc-Off. That's a lot of Off's for not a lot (or any...) cash!
That is it for me, for this month.
If there is anything that you would like to see me include as a regular feature, or if you have any other feedback, please let me know. Just drop a note through to firstname.lastname@example.org.
