All through winter, every Tuesday, you can be guaranteed a great ride in good company. The Tuesday chainie stays flexible over the darker months, sometimes taking a pace-line format. It’s an Alba ever-present and well worth a look if you fancy a decent workout – and maybe a pint after.
Here’s Matt’s short account of last week’s adventures.
It was dark and the thermometer was already hovering below 7 degrees. After the wash out of Sunday’ s Autumn Bash and the blustery showers which had been rolling in all afternoon my enthusiasm wasn’t at its best for chaingang.
As I got to Adel there was already a bunch of keen and enthusiastic souls ready to make the most of the evening. The 8 of us decided to ride as a chaingang focusing on maintaining smooth and safe transitions rather than speed.
At the turn we had only lost Matt due to a mechanical and we had found a great rhythm. A tailwind, blast up the Chevin and sprint for Lawnswood rounded off a very successful and enjoyable evening. A mixed group of enthusiastic riders rode perfectly tonight and showed all the skills which Alba aims to be. The cold dark Tuesday pacelines over the winter will be a doddle with this bunch!
If you are interested in getting better at group riding we run weekly training rides on a Saturday and chaingang/paceline on a Tuesday. Rides are focusing on skills and base miles until the New Year so why not get involved.
