The Coaching (Thursday)
In line with our aim to inspire Youths to take up a lifetime of cycling, riding skills for both the recreational and competitive cyclist will be taught to enable safe group riding on the Tour de France roads across the White Rose county. British Cycling Level 2 coaches ensure the sessions are fun and use the most up to date coaching techniques.
Older and faster riders can train with a mixed group of adults usually led by professional coach, former pro racer and NFTO team manager Tom Barras. http://www.training-pro.co.uk/ Tom also trains many celebrated local cyclists and the British Triathlon team so you know you're in good hands!
This is where our u12 and above youth racers train.
The Race Fitness and Skills Sessions (Monday)
Coached in 2 race training groups:
Intermediate and Advanced (Beginners should attend Thursday first)
This is a multi club effoiert with Level 2 and above specialist coaches from albaRosa, Ilkley, Harrogate Nova and Valley Striders.
The sessions focus on riders ready for race fitness training and race skills. Riders should have good fitness, developed bike handling and group riding skills with a desire to ride faster.
Road bikes only (or CX with road tyres)
We have the following ethos:
- Friendly and welcoming
- Multi club team effort
- Equitable and positive
You must book on this session in advance. You will find out how to do this via our youth racing Facebook page once you have become an ARCC member and joined our youth Facebook page.
How to get there
Vehicle access to the circuit is from Otley road just after Lawnswood cemetery (turn left) if driving from the North or just before the end of the dual carriageway (turn right) if driving up from the Ring Road roundabout
ARCC Youths will be coached to make the transition to the appropriate full ARCC group rides with a participating parent or guardian. Faster riders are often supported to ride in adult social and training rides such as the Tuesday night chaingang and Saturday training.
For the competitive minded, advice and support is given on the right level of regional & national traffic free races to enter. This is built into our coaching.
